FAQ

What type of yoga do you teach?

I teach gentle deep yoga where students become curious about who they are. I draw from classical yoga – the 8 Limbs of yoga as explained in the wisdom literature of the Yoga Sutras.  Yoga poses are explored on all levels presented as students experience poses to the best of their ability.  Yoga is a journey of self discovery and is for everyone.

What can I expect to experience in your yoga class?

Classes begin with a gentle check in, brief meditation along with the exploration of the different seed sound of the seven chakras (spinning wheels of energy).  Sound helps individuals move through blockages, mentally, physically, or emotionally. Yoga is experienced from the inside out.  Asanas are explored with time for integration provided. Savasana ends each class.

What Should I Bring?

Bring a yoga mat, water bottle, towel to dry off with along with an open mind & body.

What Should I Wear?

Comfortable clothing that will stretch and move with you throughout the different yoga positions.

What happens in a Meditation/Breathing class?

There is a combination of meditation and pranayama. In the yoga sutras it states that a balancing of breath work and meditation creates balance within the student.  Different pranayama (conscious breathing) techniques accommodating all levels are explored.  There are guided meditations and specific focus on the chakras so students experience their energy body, subtle body and/or diamond body.

What is Hakomi?

Hakomi is a body centered therapy.  Hakomi translated from the Hopi language means:  How do I stand in these many realms?   Hakomi is a gentle way of connecting to what is going on within, how our bodies have adapted consciously and subconsciously.  It is a subtle way of looking at yourself, becoming curious about what has turned up and using an experimental attitude to be with yourself.  When it was explained to me that I was only human, and humans make mistakes, a part of me relaxed.  Hakomi operates on the principle that there is nothing wrong with the client but maybe some of our habitual patterns are getting in the way of leading a fulfilling life while being fully authentic.
